Aziz Ansari is a well-known American comedian and actor. He is widely popular for his different roles in NBC series, Parks and Recreation (2009-2015) as Tom Haverford and in the Netflix series, Master of None which he created. The show debuted just last year, 2015 and already The New York Times has called it as the best comedy of the year.
Life before Comedic/Acting Career
Actor and comedian Aziz Ansari was born on February 23, 1983, and are of Indian-American descent. He was born in Columbia, South Carolina in a Tamil Muslim family that came from Tamil Nadu in India. Aziz’s mother, Fatima, works a job in the medical office while his Shoukath, his father, is a gastroenterologist. Aziz Ansari has said that he is more of an atheist. He attended Marlboro Academy and South Carolina Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics. He then graduated majoring in marketing in New York University Stern School of Business.
Comedic and Acting Career
Ansari first started in performing standup back in his college years in New York throughout summer 2000. Then it was in 2007 when he produced and then starred the show Human Giant, an MTV sketch comedy show which was able to run for double seasons. With this creation, Ansari was successfully cast in drama roles in several feature films which include Funny People, I Love You, Man, Observe and Report as well as the 30 Minutes or Less.
Acting Roles and Comedic Talent
Aziz Ansari’s comedic talent became real popular and so it came to lead him being cast with roles in some TV shows. In 2009, he started his run in the role of Tom Haverford on the sitcom Parks and Recreation. Additionally, Aziz has also made it big in the movie scene when he made a big impression with his small-part but really scene-stealing play in the movie Funny People. Aziz Ansari then on went on getting much bigger movie roles such as when he co-starred with Jesse Eisenberg in 30 Minutes or Less, a crime comedy movie in 2011.
Apart from his notable roles in several movies, Aziz also had some well-known stand-up specials under his name. Some of these standup specials include Aziz Ansari: Dangerously Delicious back in 2012 and another called Aziz Ansari: Live at Madison Square Garden last year 2015. Currently, Aziz has a series debuted in Netflix. Aziz and Ansari co-created and co-wrote the new sitcom together with Alan Yang. Not only did he co-created and co-wrote the show, he also plays a role with him acting an actor named Dev within the show.
The show follows the ups and downs of Dev’s career and romantic life. This is Aziz Ansari’s most important work as of these days. With his work with it, he earned his first ever Golden Globe nomination and it was dubbed as the best comedy of the year just yet. Apart from the show Master of None, Aziz has several other projects such as writing.
